Saint Michael Catholic Church

St. Michael Chapel

The St. Michael Chapel has been constructed in memory of Mr. William Fahey, a former parishioner, by his son, William Jr.

Mr. Fahey left St. Michael Parish to serve in the US Army during World War II.  He sent the following letter (see below the slideshow) from England, where he was deployed, along with $10 (surely a huge sum in those days!) to Father McGinnis, then pastor of Saint Michael’s.

Dear Father,

I don’t think you will recall me, even my name. Nevertheless I am a member of St. Michael’s Parish.

Realizing that a large percentage of your parishioners are now in the various branches of the service, I also realize your parish expenses are still going on. In a very small way, I am endeavoring to help. (A ten dollar P.O. Order enclosed).

I am stationed in England. It is a wonderful country. The people are very nice and do all they can to help us. I may add they know there is a war on, as well. They don’t know the style of living as we at home know it. It is that they just don’t have the modern conveniences that go to make up our everyday life. The Yanks have to a great extent impressed them with these facts.

There is much I can write about England, all favorable. About their beautiful farm lands, hospitable people, quaint villages. The chief interest is, when are we going home? Also, what are we coming home to?

As I am necessarily busy, I must for the present end this letter. Lastly, we here are treated the best possible. Everything is tried to make our life the easiest possible.

Hoping this letter may have answered some questions in your mind, I remain,

 Sincerely yours,
 William J. Fahey

We thank Mr. Fahey Jr. for his generosity in allowing the renovations necessary for this Chapel, and assure him of our prayers for the repose of the soul of his father especially as we put our new Chapel to good use for daily Mass, personal prayer during the day, for the charismatic prayer group and for other opportunities to pray and praise the Lord in this beautiful space!
